A near-capacity crowd at the Silver City Public Library on Saturday January 28 enjoyed hearing the accomplished mystery writer, Steven Havill, discuss his newest book and some of his older books. Havill currently makes his home just up the road near Datil, NM. Since 1981, he has authored four western novels, 18 contemporary mysteries set in fictitious Posadas County, NM, and two historical medical novels set in the Puget Sound area during the 1890s. The latest addition to the Posada County Mystery Series, One Perfect Shot, was released in January 2012. The lecture was free and open to the public.Havill made the crowd chuckle when he described the "teenage" editor at his first publisher, an editor that drove him to his present Phoenix publisher. He inspired, or dismayed, some in the audience with accounts of putting butts into chairs and cutting 500 manuscript pages to 250. Havill signed lots of books. Most of his titles are in the public library collection, although they're all checked out for now. |
